The mission of the DSAEP is to provide support and educational information for families and friends of individuals with Down Syndrome.

As you all know October is Down syndrome awareness month. Not knowing anything about DS, that all changed June 2007. That is when the good Lord blessed us with Noah! He has taught me so much about the person I am and who I want to be. Now I am doing all that I can to bring an organization to help others. I was not given that support when I needed it most! Therefore, I will do what I can to provide support, education and comfort to those families who need and want it. So, I ask that if you have a child, grandchild, cousin, sister, brother or neighbor to hug them and be thankful to have them in your life because we all are truly blessed!!
So, we did not receive our 501(c)(3) status in time for the Buddy Walk this year 
This is ok because it doesn’t matter if we have an offical Buddy Walk, as long as we can come together as a community and celebarte Down Syndrome Awareness. This is what we will be doing this year. We will be meeting on 10/24/09 from 2-4 at La Union Corn Maze to celebrate DS awareness. Bring family & friends. You can find more information under the “EVENTS” tab. Hope to see you all there!!

WOW!!! We had about 120-130 people attend the DS seminar!! That is amazing! Thank you to Susan who organized the seminar and to all of the guest speakers! The seminar talked about several issues that individuals may or may not encounter. These issues were both health and behavioral. We hope to have another seminar next year. Thanks to everyone who attended. Without you all it would not have been a success!!

We have some wonderful things happening in the next couple of months. We do have a marketing packet which needs to be edited and be ready to hand out. An email will be sent out to all who are interested in participating.We are working closely with Baylor College of Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital in Housto, TX. They will be holding a seminar on Down Syndrome on Saturday, Agust 29. The place is still undetermined. Once that information becomes available we will send that out. This seminar will take the place of our monthly meeting. We also, have Buddy Walk posters so if anyone is interested in posting them at your place of empolyment please let us know.
Our May meeting was held on the 23rd of May. Our meetings will generally be the last Saturday of every month. May’s meeting was the 23rd due in part of the Memorial meeting. It was nice to start off summer with a barbeque and swimming.At the meeting we discussed where we are with the organization. 1st we are a nonprofit with the state. 2nd we need $300 in order to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) through the IRS. As of right now that is where all of our yearly $25 dues are going towards. 3rd we are working with Gilbert Urrutia from California, in putting together a marketing packet for the Buddy walk. 4th we are in the process of getting the buddy walk registered with NDSS.We need the communities help and support to make the Buddy Walk 2009 a success. October is Down syndrome awareness month, however March 21 is WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!! DS is also known as Trisomy 21.Â
If you know someone in your life that has Down Syndrome, please give them a hug and let them know how lucky you are to have them in your life. Let’s celebrate WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!
